231,248 PointsThe "%" symbol is the modulus operator.
Modulus is the same thing as 'remainder", so it's like division except you discard what you would normally get as the result and keep just what is left over.
But you also need to observe operator precedence. Some operations are done before others, no matter where they appear on the line. That link will take you to a page with a handy chart.
