11,737 PointsAdvantages of converting site to wordpress?
Hi!
I have a website for my business and I also use it as a CV. But I have wondered for some time if i should convert it to wordpress (just as a way to learn it). I wonder though if there are any direct advantages to converting a site to wordpress except for the user friendliness in the background.
My website is this:
Do you have a good reason why this site should be converted?
Thanks :-)

Great tips! I'm not the blogging type of guy, but the other stuff were quite interesting :-D I think I'll give it a go :-)

Treehouse Guest TeacherA few reasons:
- As a learning process for you
- If you need to make the site editable to people who don't know code. (I'm assuming it's a static site now)
- If you want to add functionality that's easier to do with WordPress

Great tips. I think I'm going to go through your course "Wordpress theme development" one more time and implement it on my website.
One last thing, does Wordpress change my SEO value? I have this internal conflict. Maybe Wordpress slows my site down (and decrease my SEO-value), or maybe Wordpress (as I've read) really has a good SEO structure which increase the SEO-value. I don't really know what to believe...
What is your experience on this Zac?

13,887 PointsHi Emil,
There are a ton of good reasons, but I'll list a few of my favorite reasons why I took the time to create a custom WP Theme for my site:
I have a lot of content...WP makes it extremely easy to manage my content since it is a Content Management System (CMS).
I wanted to be able to add a blog. WP is built off blogging, so a blog comes packaged straight out of the box.
I wanted to add a portfolio of my work. As an HTML site, each project was a pain to add. I had to copy all the project files from a previous project, and then edit all of the markup to add the project. Now, with my custom post type, all I have to do is click on Add New from the backend Portfolio section I created, and fill out a simple form to add text, and browse to upload the project images. Voila! New project added in less than 2 minutes.
I wanted to add an easily manageable FAQ page. Again, with a custom post type I can easily add new questions or delete old questions.
Wordpress is EXTREMELY powerful and useful! I used Zac Gordon's "How To Make A Wordpress Website" course and followed along the project with my own site instead of the site used in the lesson and was able to get my WP site up and running in about 2 weeks. Plus, clients were ALWAYS asking me to build them a WP site...now I can! :) Good luck!
