are this posible if we set the margin besides using :not() property

why don't we use "+" sign combinator to do the margin ??

You could definitely use .col + .col in this case too to make sure that you're not selecting the first child. I think in terms of the video this was really just used to continue to teach examples of using the :not() selector. There are always other ways to do things.
