Backing up a wordpress site...

What is the recommended plugin for backing-up a wordpress site and restoring it? Since

I'm following the Wordpress course and I just know that in the process of learning I'm going to break a lot of things on my site and I'm just wondering if there is a way to restore a site when a newbie like me demolishes it with silly code...

Thanks!

Just copy your theme and plugins and download the database regularly. Then you can just delete what you screw up and copy in the old theme and plugins and import the database. This way will keep a your menus etc. as the config file won't be changing or anything else, this guarantees restoring your site.

For database I suggest using 'WP-DBManager'. It has everything what you need and it is free. http://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-dbmanager/

For files you will need to copy them manually. If you are on a local machine then you can simply copy/duplicate the entire website folder. And if you are using some hosting then you can use a ftp client to copy your entire website directory to your computer.

Hope it helps! :)

Not sure how far along in the WordPress video series but the plug inn that is recommended is BackUpWordPress just search for it in the add new pluginns menu with your WP dashboard,

I used it myself today its really useful as it saves all the wordpress files and also your database .sql file so your completely covered and it only takes a couple of minutes :)

Hope that helps and i'm sure you will come across it as you watch the video/tutorial series

Cheers

Anthony

Thank you all for your help. I'm waiting eagerly for the last stage in the video series "launching a wordpress site" because I have worked on my site locally and I don't want to run into an obstacle when moving it to the live server... and once there, I want to be able to back up my site regularly.

Hi,

I'm no WordPress expert but I can tell you its not as scary as it looks I used to get intimidated by the thought databases and updating WordPress but if you take your time and follow the instructions provided you won't have any issues at all and if you do you will be in a great position to quickly recover....
