Best wordpress themes/ it's future?

Hello there

Just wanted to find out what in your opinion are the best wordpress themes for customization?

Or in other words, the easiest to work with?

Also, do you personally think that Wordpress will be the number one cms soon?

WordPress is currently the top CMS: other notable ones are Joomla, Drupal, Perch, Concrete 5, and Expression Engine.

A lot of WordPress shops use the Genesis framework and build child themes from that. Whatever one you choose to explore, find one with lots of support.

I've been writing a custom theme from absolute scratch. It's been a process, be very rewarding in. I just found it easier to start from nothing and build up that to even download a stripped down theme and modify from there. The first time is the worst. I think it'll be much easier next time.

I'd estimate I have 130-150 hours into building my first full custom WP theme. Probably have 30-40 hours left to finish it for round 1 anyway.

Wow, nice!

Its a challenge!

And are you really experience in php and mysql?

What guides are you using?

I like wordpress, the most frustrating part for me is to play with the layout. Like I still have no idea how to set up a one pager and add a slider to it..

Good luck to you! It gives you a lot of experience right?

It certainly is a huge challenge! I'm not at all experienced in php, and even less in mysql. Actually, I'm horrible with databases. I can set one up for wordpress, and that's about it.

I really helped to build a static HTML template, and than convert it to WP. I didn't do that the first time and it was a huge mistake.

For guides, I've got a little bit of Twitter Bootstrap, however custom layout, and than the rest just designed out.

It is very frustrating, but it'll be rewarding when this goes live soon! Huge experience, and I think the second one will go even faster.

Oooh, tricky question. WordPress themes are really a matter of functionality. If you're looking to build a customised theme for yourself then might be a good idea to go with genesis (or thesis if you prefer) though that involves a bit of a learning curve in the coding process...

Otherwise, it's a matter of deciding what features you want and making sure that you get the right one for you. A couple of places you can start researching or browsing are woothemes and themeforest - they're pretty reputable :)

I know that's not a really clear answer but often it's the truth... so many themes to choose from, it's a matter of persoanl preference :)

Yep, WordPress is tricky, but I personally think it will take over, if it not did already.
