416 PointsBlack Hat SEO "localized"
Hi, Based on my observations, I am pretty sure that Google rules about black hat SEO are used different from country to country or region to region. Example: in Romania, I now for sure that one of our competitors is using Black Hat SEO techniques and that site is in top 4 on SERP. What can you tell me about that? Is Google relaxing the rules for some regions or they don't care? Thanks, Andi

8,380 PointsI've been doing SEO for many years now and to put it simply - Google is broken.
It's unlikely that they allow black hat SEO for different countries, sadly they still struggle to deal with it. A quick Google search for Payday loans shows that black hat SEO still works, these may be short term rankings but they profit it off it enough to make it worthwhile.
It's a tough decision to call - if you can't beat them join them mentality because as you said it's working for your competition but then you stand future risk on Google's algorithmic/manual updates.
While I dabble in black hat seo for smaller sites since it works I would focus on a longer term strategy for your brand. Using tips from backlinko.com will help you. He's one of the most impressive SEO's I've seen with the rankings to prove it. Hopefully using these tips will be able to get you above your competition.
Good luck :)

39,199 PointsUsing Blackhat SEO techniques are no different than using any other ethically grey business practices.
Yes you can make money although that revenue source could unexpectedly dry up and cause major cash flow problems for the business.
