Bug marked invalid. Can you speak to this and what it does to the code for the fix, is this still usable? What changes?

Specifically, if a student made these changes would this fix break anything in 4.1 or still be useable. Should the gist "fix" override and still work or will you have to change code to implement a new way to leverage the media library as the resolution suggests?
