change color of h1 tag to purple

I used font tag inside h1 tag, but the editor didn't accept it. so i typed <h1 color=purple> Welcome to my web page</h1> but this was also rejected

index.html
<!doctype html>
<html>
  <head>
    <link href="styles.css" rel="stylesheet">
  </head>
  <body>

    <h1 color=purple>
     Welcome to My Web Page!
            </h1>

  </body>
</html>
styles.css
. normal{
  color :purple;

remove the dot from in front of the "h1" and it will pass!

html <!doctype html> <html> <head> <link href="styles.css" rel="stylesheet"> </head> <body>

<h1>
 Welcome to My Web Page!
        </h1>

</body> </html>

css .h1{ color:purple; }

This does not pass. The dot in front of "h1" needs to be removed.
