I found 5 errors

  • remove leading '^'. Using this will only match beginning of line. Failed due to user name
  • change both "" to "+". Using "" means 0 or more. This might give false positive
  • add missing comma. Need to "consume" the comma between email and phone number
  • change \t to \s. The whitespace between the fields is a space not a tab
  • remove trailing "$". Using this will only match end of line. Failed due to twitter field.
contacts = re.search(r'''
(?P<email>[\w.+]+@[\w.]+),\s? # <-- remove leading '^', change both  "*" to "+", add missing comma, and change \t to \s.
(?P<phone>\d{3}-\d{3}-\d{4})''', string, re.X|re.M) # <-- remove trailing "$"
