Co-developing a Wordpress-site

Hi guys,

I am working on a website for a client, and to help me I have gotten a really good designer to help me out. I will build an online store for this website while the designer takes care of other stuff.

My question is: what is the best way to co-develop a wordpress-site when your co-developer isn't even in the same country as you?

I was thinking of just a password protected domain, but is there any better solution?

Hey Thorstein,

Have you considered using a technology called Vagrant? It gives you a self contained development environment that is exactly the same on multiple machines.

I would recommend using GIT to store the project and the Vagrant files, you can then each have your own development branch (or better have a branch per task), and merge them when each of you are finished.

Its a fair bit of work to get your head around on the first project - but trust me its soooo worth it :-)

I've used this successfully to co-work several times really successfully - http://vagrantpress.org

Give me a shout if you need some help :)

Hi,

Are you talking about sharing your development environment?

Cheers, Shaun

Yes. Share the database, developing the same website.
