9,767 PointsFor a simple blog, that you don't plan to expand too much, stick with .com.
The best explanation of the two is in the first couple of videos in the WordPress section.

188 Pointsoh ok, because i was thinking for a website such as a blog there shouldnt be much needed, so might as well use the free wordpress. thanks

188 Points.com it is :)

9,767 PointsIt's the support you get with the .com service. It's much easier to manage and create something which when it's just a blog, the WordPress engine is a fantastic blogging engine.
Have a watch of Zac's videos and see what you think.

Courses Plus Student 6,588 PointsYou can signup for free on Wordpress.com and continue to use it as your blog at no cost to you (they also offer paid options). However, if you are looking to maximize the value of your blog, I would suggest purchasing your own domain and hosting and then installing Wordpress for free.
Check out Wordpress.com for details on creating a blog for free and here's a link to Wordpress Web Hosting for more details on hosts that work with Wordpress. Hope this helps.

188 Pointsone other question, if i use .com, would i still be able to follow along with these stages: http://teamtreehouse.com/library/websites/how-to-make-a-wordpress-blog
Tarra Anzalone
11,874 PointsNo, a blog hosted on wordpress.com does not have the same functionality as one created on your own host. Following the teamtreehouse tutorial requires self-hosting. (at least when I last watched it, it was focused on building on an off-line server and FTPing it to your host.)
My host has an option to install a CMS like WP without downloading the files from wordpress.org. All I pay for is my hosting costs and yearly domain.

Courses Plus Student 6,588 PointsYes. You may see additional options available in the .com admin that you will not in the videos but you should still be able to perform most (if not all) of the exercises Zac explains.

188 Points@Tarra Anzalone oh ok i see, anyways wordpress.com seems pretty easy, i'll just use google and view a few tutorials. Thanks!
Luqman Shah
188 Points@Matt Caden Alright i'll make sure of that, thank you!

Courses Plus Student 6,588 PointsOk. Tarra is correct. In the deeper videos you will run into significant differences.

Courses Plus Student 6,588 PointsIt really depends on you want to use it. What type of site would you plan on building using Wordpress?
