Is it OK to just have 3 separate if(){}
statements? Or is better practice to use else if(){}

The reason I ask it works both ways.

The answer is really based on the context of the situation. Think about how easy it would be for someone else to jump into that code block and understand what is happening (playing nice with others). Also, if you are part of a team, then what ever coding standards are used by the team would make sense.
