Filezilla doesn't look liek one on tutorial and wordpress just loads in to download fielwith no way of initializing

I have gotten to the point of installing xampp and fillza which both seem to download ok. Filzilla wanted me to give a passcode to connect to server or check a box that say connect to server every time...so I just typed in an easy password. I also created the test file and the notepad test file and then click on the explorer button. The filezilla page doesn’t' even closely resemble what is represented on the tutorial. Of course I am looking at the top for where to link Cpanel (which is already up and running as well was the non-local Wordpress. So there is a bunch of stuff miss from filzlla when I open it. I have tried to download WrodPress.org probably four times and just get an unintializing file in my download folder. I have been messing with this for a week. I was also wanting the mimic this free video on YouTube called WordPress with no steps skipped (I thought that would be a go supplemental practice) And there is no search area to just pull up the templet he was using call "responsive" So I got an account at WordPress.com. The first thing you want to adjust like color or font they want to sell you a @399 annual premium annual pass. I'm just a beginner. I'm kind of putzing around on the WordPress on the server in cpanel right now and have added servale pages and picture on each page still trying to get the widgets going and some other things. So I can mess around with that. From what i have read it is pretty advantageous to get WordPress.org going. So as to not spend a ton of money on templets while you are learning? Still quite happy with tutorials. Some crazy stuff with fillezilla tried to hijack my home internet explorer call (Voteron or some bullsxxt???) I just uninstalled it and reset my home google page

Hey Thomas, keep in mind there's 2 different WordPress courses here: "Learn WordPress" and "WordPress Development". I would recommend you go through "Learn WordPress" first because it is probably more the type of course you need. For "WordPress Development" you need to know HTML, CSS, some basic jQuery and some PHP. If you are a beginer, you should go through some courses first and then try again with WP Development, otherwise it will look more complicated than it really is. There is even one stage in the "Learn WordPress" course called "How to Build a WordPress Blog Without Coding", but I would recommend the entire course not only that stage.

Good luck.

OK so there is a big difference between the two. That's good to know. I did learn some of WordPress p/panel but I still fledgling around with the widgets, but I have actually inserted some pages with some text and pictures! Need to make the page more appealing that's for sure...lol

I have been working on the HTML coding like inserting <nav> and all that. Need to practice and get a lot more efficient at that. just barely touched on CSS. OK so this is more advanced. Yeah it's not cooperating to much right now. If I can get it working though that would be cool. I'm not sure how to access all the templates on the one on my student web server. I thought that I could have more access to templates with this method

Well there are also different kinds of templates... Free Themes and Premium Themes. Most of the free ones won't let you change much. Some of the templates you buy you can modify it all depends of what you want to buy. If you are interested in coding and you keep it up with the courses I mentioned before, then you can learn how to create your own templates and all that. Just, don't try to rush it. One step at the time. The "Learn WordPress" course will probably solve a lot of questions for you and allow you to get a pretty nice WP blog or site going.

I speak from experience, before Treehouse I knew HTML and CSS but not jQuery or PHP and WordPress was the very first thing that caught my eye. I found it extremely difficult to follow, but then I went and took some other courses, I learned what I was missing and then went back and it was an entirely different experience. Then everything made sense.
