Tags in a DocBlock begin with an @ (at sign).
The question can be mildly confusing because it asks "Tags in a docblock start with which character?", which can be lead people to think that the asterisk is part of the tag, when it's actually part of the DocBlock.
The actual tag begins with the @ symbol.
