help finding local wordpress folder???

I'm brand new to wordpress. Currently watching the "wordpress development"-"customizing wordpress themes"-"how to make child themes". So i'm at the part where I need to create a child theme. I can go to my ftp files, but the instructor says to open the finder (on a mac), and go to where wordpress is installed locally. Problem is I CAN"T FIND the local wordpress files. If anyone can advise I would really appreciate it. When I first downloaded wordpress I didn't really know what I was doing, and I'm afraid I did something wrong along the way, and I'm now trying to backtrack. Thanks in advance.

Hi Ramon,

When you said you can get to your files via FTP do you mean via workspaces here on Treehouse? Also if you have already downloaded WordPress the ZIP file should still be in your downloads folder.

Could you also please post some information about your environment as there are some great guides to get WordPress setup locally.

First I would like to know... What operating system you are using? and What program you used to install the wordpress locally?

I can get to the ftp files using cpanel. Do I need to copy those files to my local computer?

If you already have WordPress on a server that tells me you've skipped a step as the vast majority of courses on Treehouse only focus on installations and development for local servers, I've added a course link below which should help you out and clear up any confusion as to what is required of you.
