You want to install it on a dedicated Mac OS server I assume, right? I've never heard of zPanel but I use cPanel on my remote shared server through a hosting provider. vDeck is also another control panel which is newer I believe. I know to install cPanel you'll need to purchase a licence to use it.

You can't install cPanel's on an ordinary iMac or MacBook since they are not an actual server that house/store files to be viewed on the internet. In other words, you can't install cPanel, vDeck etc locally on your personal computer. You can only install it on a dedicated server. A remote shared server like you would get at GreenGeeks will automatically have one installed. Those are only used to easily use a server and create sub domains, emails, etc.

cPanel is the most commonly used and therefore more supported, however, a lot of people seem to like Webmin.

P.S. Control panels are usually installed on web servers rather than locally.

Ok! I have just buy a domain name on http://webhostingforstudents.com Is http://webhostingforstudents.com a place where I can put the panel or do I need something else ? I'm very confused!

Florian, I've never used that service but I'm just going to assume they're using cPanel (which is actually very easy to use). Also note that these panels come preinstalled and you usually won't have to install anything

Here's some more resources for you.

Edit: Looks like they are using cPanel: http://webhostingforstudents.com/faq/#login

They should have cPanel installed already when you signup and register a domain name. They'll send you an email with all the login information for the cPanel, FTP, and various other things. It should be as easy as sign up, get information, and login.

Thanks a lot for your answers! I figure out that I had purchased only the domain name and not the hosting. I have just fixed it!

Gotcha, thats also an easy fix. Where did you purchase the domain at, Florian Goussin? Since your domain name and hosting weren't purchased together you'll need to change the "nameservers" associated with the domain name. If you bought the domain at GoDaddy you'll need to login and manage your domains. You should see an option to change the name servers somewhere (there should be two) in the domain settings. Figure out what the name servers are for your hosting and enter that into GoDaddy to associate or "link" the two up. It will take a while to process so it won't be instant.

I purchased both of them at webhostingforstudents.com. I bought zahramarwan.com and I receive a mail for cpanel with the following address : http://zahramarwan.com/cpanel But none of them work. Maybe the domain don't work by default ? I have created a ticket and I'm waiting for an answer.

Propagation is usually pretty fast but you should be able to login using the IP address and port, or possibly the web server's address. Looks something like: http://01.002.003.004:2082 or server42.hosts-domain.com/cpanel.

They should have provided everything you need in the setup email.

They just did a redirect from the actual address to something simpler. You should have received an email with a bunch of information including alternative addresses for the cPanel like Dustin pointed out. My cPanel login from my host is daveberning.com:2082

Thanks a lot! I received a ticket back. I'm going to wait some hours until it propagates again. Thanks for the advices too.
