how come my active stage is not working in wordpress

l have set an active stage for the nav menu item. they work perfectly on the static theme that l create but cease to do the magic in my wordpress theme considering they both use the same css. any idea why this is happening and how to resolve it please?

You may need to update your static CSS to work with the CSS classes that WordPress outputs for active menus.
