Python Python Basics (2015) Logic in Python Fully Functional

How do you get the treehouse workspaces command to show in the console?

The course teacher keeps getting the treehouse workspaces command to show up when he presses enter so he can enter python functions.py. I can't do this. It just goes to a blank line.

Can you clarify the situation:

  • Do you see the console window at all or is it hidden?

    ā†’ The console is at the bottom of the Workspace window. If it is not visible, in the Workspace menu bar use View > Show Console

  • Do you see the console prompt ~/workspaces $ ?

  • Are you able to see the prompt but unable to type a command?

  • Do you type a command but just get the new prompt with no additional out put?

  • Do you type a command but nothing happens (no new prompt)?

For me currently, I have the first part of the lesson saved to workplace saved as functions.py:

def hows_the_parrot(): print("he's pining for the fjords!")

hows_the_parrot()

When I type python functions.py

I get a syntax error: def hows_the_parrot(): print("he's pining for the fjords!")

hows_the_parrot()

Where am I missing whatever?
