How to do a subdomain for creating another WordPress site and how to move WordPress sites.

I have purchased a domain name and web hosting from Web Hosting for Students. Now I want to create more sites to experiment with (one is for an electrician friend who needs a website). I don't want to buy a new domain name for each of my experiments so how do I do this as a subdomain for my existing domain?

Also, if I create it as a subdomain, how do I later move the new site (or copy it) to the domain name my electrician friend will buy? Is there a place in these WP video lessons where Zac talked about this?

Yeah I have done that. I didn't use the all in one thing though. If I remember correctly I followed along with the course about it http://teamtreehouse.com/library/local-wordpress-development.

I would need to watch the videos for a memory jogger.

I just did this very thing today.

Your hosting company should be able to walk you through the process of creating a subdomain. The hosting company I use has a live chat feature, but Web Hosting for Students probably does not as they are a little bit smaller I think. They probably do have a tutorial on their site for it.

Open a support ticket with them asking them about subdomains. I am not even sure if they offer you a subdomain since they are for smaller projects, but I don't know a lot about hosting.

There is a plugin for migrating a WordPress site. It is called 'All-in-One WP migration'. I used it today. It worked fairly well although one of my plugins somehow got lost during the transfer so I had to reinstall it. I don't know why that happened. But when yo reinstall a plugin it keeps your old data with it, so you for example I had to reinstall a WOOcommerce slider. When I reinstalled it all the settings came back and it was just like on the old site.

Again, I have no idea why this happened.

If you try to use that plugin and have any trouble with it come back here and I will try to tell you what I did.

That lead on the All in one WP Migration is very helpful. I don't need it today but will definitely be using it in the future so I am glad to learn of it. I am going to do some research on doing a subdomain on Web Hosting For Students. That is the first thing I need to figure out. Have you done it also where you host your WP site locally on your computer during development and then move it to live?

Here is another tool that you could use for migrating WordPress.

https://managewp.com/

It has a clone/migration feature as well. I have not used it though. I started to use it today, but just went with the 'All-in-one' plugin.

All of this info is super helpful for me. I did the local wp development course today and created local site really easily. I haven't tried to make it live yet and am going to look at the plugin you mention. Under the forum questions I saw that Zac posted that there is a new course coming out called Modern WP development. It uses some other method for local hosting so that will be interesting to see when it comes out.
