How to upload WordPress file to FileZilla

I'm on the stage 1 of "Installing WordPress" in the WordPress track and I already downloaded the WordPress file and FileZilla, but it seems the video completely skipped a step and I have no idea how to upload my WordPress file the FileZilla software...

Hi Melissa, I'm a visual person myself so here's a link to a tutorial with some nice screenshots. http://www.siteground.com/tutorials/ftp/filezilla.htm

Hope this helps. :)

Hey Melissa, Think of filezilla like a mailman (courier) your not uploading anything to filezilla filezilla simply carries files from one computer to another. So when you open filezilla THEN log in to your server, the left panel is YOUR computer and the right is you HOST'S computer (server). SO If you had the WP file on your desktop, you would navigate and find the file in the LEFT panel, and then click and drag the file to the RIGHT panel BUT only drag it into your public.html file. Let me know if you need additional help!

Hola, Ms. Mott!

The two resources above—the video and the comment—are great. I don't know that I can add too much to the conversation, but I would like to extend a helping hand should you need help going forward. Feel free to contact me.

Overall, I have to say Treehouse has been invaluable to my learning Wordpress. I would highly recommend the course on utilizing Bootstrap with WordPress as Bootstrap is a very useful tool for rapidly building web apps. Also, you may consider taking a few of the Treehouse courses on using WordPress simply as an editor. It will greatly help familiarize you with the CMS in terms of core functionality in the context of an editor's workflow.

After you have finished what they have to offer, I would recommend pursuing further education through reading and/or more classes. One of the most respected books on WordPress is "Professional Wordpress: Design and Development" by Brad Williams, David Damstra, and Hal Stern; it may seem somewhat dated now that 4.0 has released, but they are releasing a new edition in February.

Here's the current edition

Here's where you can pre-order the upcoming edition

I'm unsure if it's against the rules of this forum to give out your personal contact information, so I apologize if it is. I hope at least some of this has been helpful. I wish you all success going forward with WordPress!

Very best,

Adam
