I do not understand what is wrong with my code

This is the task i need to complete" Create a descendant selector that targets the span inside the header element. Add a font-size property and set the value to 26px."

Here is my code:

You don't have an element with a class of "main-header" in your html. You probably need to put it at the header element, so it reads:

<header class="main-header">
  <span class="title">Journey through the Sierra Nevada Mountains</span>
  <h1>Lake Tahoe, California</h1>
</header>

Also watch out for spaces in your html. You need to delete the space in span class= "title", between the equals-sign and the starting quote of "title".

You can also target the header and its span this way:

header span { 
  font-size: 26px; 
}

The original HTML in the challenge that is provided does not have the classes assigned to the header or to the span. You have to be careful adding code to challenges that is not explicitly asked for, because it will not let you pass... The challenges are very precise and strict.

Your second code snippet is correct, and what is needed to pass (and what will only pass) the challenge.

Hi I don't see a class called main-header in the html, there is a header element which is what it asks you to target in the original question, and if thats the case you should only need to write it like this

header span {
  font-size: 26px;
}

Brienna, you doesn't seem to have a "main-header" class on your html code. Try out with this:

header span.title { font-size: 26px; }

or even

header span { font-size: 26px; }
