I don't understand what this question is trying to do. Can you explain please? What were we doing when we set $output =

I think that is just some fallback incase the for each loop doesn't run. Otherwise there would be an undefined variable error. This is good to do if your going to call a variable later that may not exist.

$output = "";

However upon first glance this code seems pretty bad. I could be wrong but it makes no sense to me.

$output = $number . $output;

Why not just?

$output = $number;

If $number was 2 it would display 2. The concatenation on an empty variable seems really stupid. Someone please correct me if I am wrong.
