I will keep trying but i'm sort of lost, I throw the iae where it tells me too but when I do it ends the program

am I supposed to do a try and catch? I feel like i'm doing what it's asking me.

GoKart.java
class GoKart {
  public static final int MAX_BARS = 8;
  private String color;
  private int barCount;
  private int lapsDriven;

  public GoKart(String color) {
    this.color = color;
  }

  public String getColor() {
    return color;
  }
  public void charge() {
    barCount = MAX_BARS;
  }

  public boolean isBatteryEmpty() {
    return barCount == 0;
  }

  public boolean isFullyCharged() {
    return MAX_BARS == barCount;
  }

  public void drive() {
    drive(1);
  }

  public void drive(int laps) {
    int batteryReq = barCount - laps;
    if ( barCount < batteryReq )  {
      throw new IllegalArgumentException("not enough juice");
     lapsDriven += laps;
    barCount -= laps;
    }
}
}

It looks like you have a misplaced closing brace. The conditional block should include only the "throw", and the original lines that update the laps and bars should be done outside of that block.

Also, you don't want to compare the barCount to the batteryReq, since it is part of the calculation that creates it. You probably meant to test if batteryReq is less than zero.

You could also skip creating the temporary variable and compare barCount directly to laps.
