Ideas for Web Security Learning Resources..

Hi there

I have a web security project to work on for uni and this means I will need to use encryption and decryption. Basically, the platform will need to operate using PKI technologies for security. Looking at the Treehouse security course, I've noticed these topics have not been covered in depth and I'm absolutely clueless on how to approach the project. I would really appreciate it if you could recommend any other sources that will be useful in learning how to approach the project. By the way, I'm planning to build the site with PHP.

Thank you

Mohammed ,

Here are FREE sites that could help you out with your project and security studies:

  • Cybrary - this is a legit training site that covers a large amount of technical IT & InfoSec topics (the courses here should complement your uni studies and they include topics like encryption, pki infrastructure, secure coding best practices, etc).
  • SANS Web Security - browse around their free resources sections, there are lots of goodies & free events/webinars.

Treehouse is coming out with 2 new security courses, and one of them is an OWASP course. You should definitely check it out once it's released.

Hope this helps, best of luck with your project.

Sorry about the late response, Ivan. By the way, thank you very much for those links. I checked Cybrary and it seems to be exactly what I need. I will keep my eye out for the Treehouse course too. Thank you.

I'm surprised a school project would not have included resources (or references to resources) needed to complete the task. You can find various sources around the web, such as wikipedia and blog articles like this one at Tom's IT Pro. But I would have expected the school would have prepared you more thoroughly. Is there perhaps a textbook for this course you should refer to?
