If I'm selling an iOS app, what type of channel is it? An owned channel or partner channel?

I'm a bit confused about this.

Please answer.

I would consider it a partner channel because you don't have direct control over ALL aspects of the app after it has been submitted. Remember, it has to be approved before being released to their market. The iOS app can only be submitted to a partner (Apple) to host on their domain.

I am also confident this a partner channel as well. You are utilizing the app store as a means of marketing and distributing (selling) your content. Owned channel could be viewed as a proprietary website, marketplace or physical brick and mortar location.

Another way of thinking about it is that partner channels have lower margins but are less involved; you don't have to do any of the work to deploy your app other than uploading a final product in this example. The App Store provides a means for the users to evaluate, purchase, download, review, and request support for your app and none of those systems were created or maintained on your part. This method of selling apps is not highly involved, but the App Store takes a percentage of your sales, hence lower margin. Hope that helps!

It would be a Partner Channel. iOS applications must be made available via the App store in order to be installed on iOS devices. While you could post a link to the App Store and your Application on your own website (A Owned Channel), people would have to go to Apple's App Store (Partner Channel) to purchase and download your app.
