Courses Plus Student 759 PointsIs it okay to price a web design/dev job by project, but charge by hour for any changes/additions?
In my contract I state that I charge on a per project basis (even though it is heavily based on the total estimated number of hours it will take to complete). If the client wants any changes or additions with the content or features in the site after preliminary steps have been taken (both parties have signed off on contract and agreed to pricing, project scope, etc.), can I charge them on a per-hour basis for any of this additional work? Is this common, or are there any negatives to charging the whole project as a flat fee and charging by hour for extra work not specified in the contract and scope of project?

13,328 PointsWe're really generous with minuscule changes but additional functionality or design work that falls outside the original scope of work is billed hourly and that totally works for us.
There is language in our contracts that prepare the client for that scenario and we are very careful to point that out when we're finalizing the deal. I'd say it's quite common!
