2,349 PointsIs Ubuntu more suitable for local wordpress development rather than OSX or windows?
Because Most of the web hosting companies also uses linux for hosting.

15,815 PointsNot at all. OSX is going to have more of the software you will want to develop on Wordpress. Some good examples of this are Codekit and Transmit, both only available on OSX.

28,149 PointsDevelopment and hosting have different software needs. To echo what the others said, It's probably easier for most to develop on a Windows or Mac.
I've never had an issue launching WP to a Linux server when developed on Windows or Mac.
I think if you had a specific reason to develop in Linux instead, this question wouldn't be relevant. If you want to develop on Linux for fun, or just because....than go for it. :)

2,349 PointsWould it not solve the problem of "It's working on my machine" vs "Server"?
Zac Gordon
Treehouse Guest TeacherYup, no necessary advantage. Use what you feel most comfortable with.

15,815 PointsZac obviously you have no idea what you're talking about. It's not like you teach Wordpress or something.

3,059 PointsI would say no. The only benefit you could possibly get out of using Ubuntu would be if you are using the terminal and plan to use it on an external server for your web maintenance/updates. And even then, more than likely your host isn't using Ubuntu.
