LARAVEL 'git' is not recognized as an internal or external command

when typing in to my command prompt (windows) git clone https://github.com/laravel/homestead.git Homestead i get :

'git' is not recognized as an internal or external command,operable program or batch file.

Why is this happening, the video tutorial is only showing how to do it on a linux system and not windows :(

git is not installed on windows by default. You will need to install it. You can get an easy installer from http://msysgit.github.io/ Once that is installed, close your command prompt and reopen it and git command should now work. If it doesn't you can try using the msysGit shell that comes with the installer.
