Courses Plus Student 7,219 PointsManual WordPress Installation
I attempted the manual wordpress installation after removing the 1-click installation via cpanel. After copying the files (downloaded wordpress from wordpress.org) into the public_html folder I followed the installation instructions. Afterwards I could only see a directory listing when I visited my domain. Is this due to improper installation or am I not understanding where WP installed?
Thanks in advance!

If you could provide some more details and the steps you took maybe someone can help you. Remember you have to edit wp-config.php
to reflect the database you created.

713 PointsIts not saying anything about file permissions literally nothing happens when I try to delete just with delete key. there is no menu option to delete which I find strange. Ive setup everything the way treehouse has told me to so using webhosting for students, cpanel, filezilla for manual install etc . ill try file manager through cpanel and see how that goes.

Courses Plus Student 7,219 PointsI attempted the manual installation two times with no luck. At that point I tried the 1-click install and got my wordpress site back up. I then uninstalled wordpress via cpanel to attempt a third try at a manual install. I waited 10 minutes before attempting the manual install to make sure the cleanup script was complete and all files were removed from the public_html folder. At this point I tried the manual install using the instructions provided by Zac Gordon on the video and everything worked as expected. So...I believe I was simply not allowing enough time for the uninstall script to complete...

713 Pointscould you help me with the uninstall script. I did a manual install after the 1-click but I don't think I removed everything properly and now I can't get access to my site or the w- admin.

33,856 PointsHey Andrew, you'd simply delete everything in your public_html
or www
folder (depending on your hosting provider) except the CGI folder (which is usually protected anyhow). Using an FTP program to do that would be a good choice or you can also access the File Manager within cPanel. You also want to remove databases and users since you're going with the manual method. It's really that simple .

713 PointsThanks Dustin, I have filezilla and have tried deleting with no luck. Is there a trick to deleting on filezilla in safari? sorry for being such a newbie. all of this is very new to me.

33,856 PointsI'm not sure exactly you'll have to provide some more information. If it's saying something about file permissions you may not be able to. I really have no idea unless you can tell me what hosting you are using, or if you are using the main FTP account, etc. I would give the File Manager directly in cPanel a shot. If all else fails, you could create an extra FTP account and provide the credentials. I'd be happy to make sure everything is ready to go for you.
