my answer seems correct but why does it seem like my code is wrong? Link the portfolio to index.html

You are closing the anchor tag too soon:

<li><a href="index.html"></a>Portfolio</li>

That should look like this for each of the links - the closing anchor tag comes after the text that makes up the link:

<li><a href="index.html">Portfolio</a></li>
