So, your parent font size is 16px and what you are doing to get to 20px is the multiplication 16 x 1.25 ...the value (16px) that you times your parent font size by (1.25) is your em value.
Hope this makes some sense for you. I know how to do it, just not the best at relaying my knowledge.
