Navigate to homepage and homepage doesn't load or half loads and Chrome crashes

Hi,

Site address: http://ultimategamingparadise.com/

I've got a problem that's got me totally paniced and I'm struggling to pinpoint the issue quickly. Time is of the essence as this has developed on a live site.

What's happening is this.

Go to the site, and if the homepage loads, it loads very quickly. If not, then it crashes the Chrome tab and you have to close the tab and start again. The header loads and that's it, then you just get the grey and white checkerbox pattern.

If it loads and you navigate to reviews, leave it for 30 seconds to a minute, click back on home, it doesn't do anything. the loading timer keeps spinning and again the Chrome tab freezes.

I've removed some suspect plugins, one was jquery updater that has been throwing an error saying it can't find a file since I've installed it. I've not added a hook to load the Google jQuery library in the footer via functions.php. This has in fact, improved jQuery performance.

However, it hasn't solved the issue.

The only other thing I can think of doing since it started is buy a SSL certificate. I'm yet to install it but could this be causing an issue?

You can sit on the homepage for ages and it'll be fine, will navigate away but if you're on the site for more then 30 seconds, navigating back to the homepage is impossible.

I've updated permalinks, it's the most current database I have and nothing has changed on the database since last night when I posted a review and it was fine all night and day.

I did have a link to normalize.css in the header with no actual file, this was causing slow loading times. I've now removed the link and speed has increased.

I'm completely lost, anyone, please please help. My local installation won't even load the homepage at all. It seems, incoming links to the homepage are being blocked or something?

Zac Gordon, help please!!!

To reiterate, this is ONLY happening in Chrome. If Chrome users can go through the above described scenarios and report back if they're experiencing the same issues, that would be great. Otherwise, I can confidentally turn my attention to my computer. I fear, it isn't going to be that lucky. Wish it was my system.

Thanks guys.

Appears this is more a problem that is specifically for me.

So, why does the homepage not load for me in Chrome but does in everything else?

Bizarrely, if I leave the crashed tab open and open another one, then navigate to live or local site, it works fine.

What the hell is going on?

Yeah, I'm not able to duplicate the problem on my Chrome.

I found a laptop with chrome on and can't. got someone else trying too.

It's weird, if I leave the crashed tab open and open another, then all is well.

Thanks for checking

No problem. Hope you gets your sorted. I just had some permalink issues on my fresh wordpress site. Ended up nuking it and starting over. You've got way to much content to start that.

No way I'm starting over. Nothing wrong with the sites. It's my bloody Google Chrome. Site's live and had just over a week's work put in and well over 100 hours....been a hell of a long couple of weeks. There's loads of hidden stuff in the process of being done you can't see like the store and all the backend stuff.

Sounds good man! I wasn't suggesting you start over, lol. I barely got going which is why I did. I've tried a few more times for good measure, and can't get it to break. Might be worth getting a fresh install of Chrome on.

Thank Kevin. I've tried everything dude. Install, delete everything, restart computer....on help forums now. I should be working, not spending hours trying to fix a problem that magically appeared. lol.

My guess is this is JS related. Is there any way to disable JS either through the site or through chrome?

I would also try pingdom to see what may be holding up the page.

I think I've narrowed it down to the browser trying to us hardware acceleration. Why is has just suddenly happened I don't know. I pulled all the jQuery out the site thinking that could be the issue. No change. I've been constantly improving the jQuery as we'll to avoid problems. Plus, it's specifically me having a problem and only on the first tab. If I open a new tab and leave the crashed one open and to to the site it works fine. I'll look at pingdom. Thanks Zac, oh and check your email. ;)
