Warm hello to everyone! I'm Michael, a TD student learning full stack web development. I've been in the music industry for over 10 years running digital content delivery for an independent label.

I'm currently developing a SaaS app for the music industry, it helps folks process music royalties quickly and easily. It's a massive project that I probably should have started a few years into my development career but I'm so glad I just dove right in. It's helped me get a feel for fixing real-world problems in an arena that I love.

Good evening all! I'm Paul (in the UK) currently studying the FSJS Techdegree (I'm also a FEWD and Python Graduate).

I've worked in tech (support and network administration) for about 15 years and a couple years back made the move to Scrum Master in the automotive industry.

Working in some amazing teams has really made me want to get my feet wet and contribute, so I'm studying these courses to find what I would enjoy the most, and build a strong project portfolio.

I am not working toward a dream job per se. My goal is to become a software developer, and if that role became available at my dream employer, Microsoft, then that would be great! While my learning journey may not provide the exact skills that Microsoft may want from me, depending on the position, I believe that my journey will be a good demonstration of my willingness to learn and understand development technologies.

I have been coding off-and-on for 25+ years and Treehouse has helped me A LOT get up-to-speed with much of the latest coding frameworks and recent developments in the code-verse landscape (such as Git, ES6, Python, and React).

But I'm still finding a full-time coding position at the moment elusive. to say the least (difficult with the pandemic, I guess).

One thing that occurred to me recently is that I think tech recruiters, in general, but especially on Indeed, do not search for good candidates effectively.

This is what I arrived at:

I finally figured out why I hate the way tech companies hire.

As a developer, I'm like McDonald's.

My resume is like the drive-through menu.

Tech recruiters are like someone going through the drive-through.

I'm not even sure if they glance at the menu/resume, let alone peruse it.

But when the drive-thru speaker asks, "May I take your order?", the customer/recruiter says, "I'd like a jello."

"We don't have jello."

"Well, then I'll take a Burrito Supreme."

"We're not Taco Bell!?!"

"OK, how 'bout a small pizza?"

"Sorry, we don't have pizza, either - just what's on the menu."

"OK, then I'll take a bucket of chicken - legs and thighs only, please."

"This isn't KFC, either. The only chicken we have are McNuggets or chicken sandwiches."

"OK, let's go with some honey walnut prawns and some white rice."

"Don't have those either."

"I guess I'll have to take my business elsewhere then."

(Customer/Recruiter drives off in disgust - stomach still empty...)

LOL (not really, though, it's stupid/sad)!?!

(Let's just say I get untold emails for positions where several "requirements" are NOT anywhere on my resume, even though I have a laundry list of skills!?!)

(I have also seen job postings where the required experience level, in years, for a certain skill, is longer than that technology has existed!?! Erm...huh?!?)

Good morning everyone. I recently completed an HTML course on W3Schools, and that is as far a my knowledge of coding/software development begins and ends. I have a few ideas of applications I want to develop and reaching those goals would be my dream job. I work a full-time job as a Forklift Driver at a good company. I'm not really a social media type of person, I'm what you call an old-school type of person. I am very much a people person and love learning new things along with ambition plus drive to be successful. Nervous and ready for this journey.

Greetings All, I’m a newbie, just starting the Front End Web tech degree program! I’m also a career changer. I work in the public library field as a librarian. Been in the field for over 10 years. Ready for a positive change and challenge! My dream job would be to find a role using my library skills and tech skills anywhere within the Disney family! I just completed my first project of the course, the profile page, and submitted that yesterday. I have a lot to learn but I am looking forward to continuing the journey. I spend all of my time with my little diva dog Jubilee. She is a 16 year old Min Pin who loves bossing me around. When I’m not focused on my dog, I enjoy reading manga, helping out at my church, running, yoga, watching Disney+, and/or Godzilla movies (classics not new). I’m also a LEGO fan. My current favorite brain break activity is playing Animal Crossing New Horizons on my Nintendo Switch Lite. I’m looking forward to working and learning with you all!
