3,519 PointsOncreate method- some confusion.
I am a bit confused by this code challenge, I need to have "FIREFLY" as parameter, but if I do how do I implement it? It would be different from the others in On create. At the moment I get this error message.
import android.os.Bundle;
import android.view.View;
import android.widget.Button;
import android.widget.EditText;
public class LandingActivity extends Activity {
public Button mThrustButton;
public TextView mTypeLabel;
public EditText mPassengersField;
public Spaceship mSpaceship;
@Override
public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
setContentView(R.layout.activity_landing);
mThrustButton = (Button)findViewById(R.id.thrustButton);
mTypeLabel = (TextView)findViewById(R.id.typeTextView);
mPassengersField = (EditText)findViewById(R.id.passengersEditText);
mSpaceship( Spaceship, String "FIREFLY");
// Add your code here!
}
}
public class Spaceship {
private String mType;
private int mNumPassengers = 0;
public String getType() {
return mType;
}
public void setType(String type) {
mType = type;
}
public int getNumPassengers() {
return mNumPassengers;
}
public void setNumPassengers(int numPassengers) {
mNumPassengers = numPassengers;
}
public Spaceship() {
mType = "SHUTTLE";
}
public Spaceship(String type) {
mType = type;
}
}

57,712 PointsHi Ashley,
In this part of the challenge, you want to put a Spaceship
object into the variable that's already declared, called mSpaceship
.
For this, we use a constructor for the Spaceship
class. It has two; one that defaults the name of the ship to "SHUTTLE" and the second that we can pass a string into. It is that one we want to use.
You've got the right idea in your code; you know you want to create a spaceship and that it needs a string. Let's tidy your code up a little. First, we want to assign an object into the variable, so we'll need an equals sign. We then want to create a new
Spaceship called "FIREFLY":
mSpaceship = new Spaceship("FIREFLY");
I hope that helps - let me know how you get on with the rest of the challenge.
Steve.
