Order of Wordpress Development Track

I have been starting on the Wordpress Development track and have come across something odd.

I feel like some of the courses are a little jumbled around.

It does not affect me so much as I have my own Linux based web-server set-up here at home. But I was not a fan of making people sign up for a hosting account right away.

Wouldn't it make more sense in the beginning of the track to show people how to set up a local WP development environment using MAMP/XAMPP and later on showing them how to migrate it all to a live server?

Just a thought not a question or anything. I just thought it might help other students to know that if they start they should skip ahead to the section on developing locally first. That way you don't have to pay for a hosting account if it is something your not interested in or would like to get through the course before committing to it.

Hi!

I hear what you mean about needing to purchase something to start off, but coming from a beginning WordPress User's perspective I felt that setting up online is more common, and easier for folks not as familiar with local development. It can be a little intimidating to start with that right off the bat.

However, I think that I can go back and add one video in that first track talking about the local development option and pointing students to jump ahead to the course covering local dev.

It should definitely be clear that you don't have to purchase anything to start off.

Thanks Ted!

Well, I signed up today to treehouse and it surely was not clear that I dont have to purchase that host & domain service via your web-hosting-for-student site. :( :(
