By taking a quick look I've noticed that you are creating the var "item" inside the struct. As you are creating an instance of the struct Expense you should create it outside instead.

Hope that helps

Thanks Francisco Navarro,

The code should be

 struct Expense {
     var description: String
     var amount: Double = 0.0

     init (description: String) {
          self.description = description
     }

    func calculateTaxes(percentage: Double) -> Double {
        return (self.amount * ( percentage / 100 ))
   }
}

   var item = Expense(description : "Menu Service")
          item.amount = 100
