5,546 PointsProblem converting int value to String
Hi I need to convert the int data type returned through mSpaceship.getNumPassengers() into a String, and then set the value of mPassengersField.
I attempted to do that by typing:
mPassengersField.setText(mSpaceship.getNumPassengers().toString());
but was met with an error.
Does anyone know where I went wrong here and how to fix my mistake? Thanks a bunch in advance to anyone who answers : D
import android.os.Bundle;
import android.view.View;
import android.widget.Button;
import android.widget.EditText;
public class LandingActivity extends Activity {
public Button mThrustButton;
public TextView mTypeLabel;
public EditText mPassengersField;
public Spaceship mSpaceship;
@Override
public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
setContentView(R.layout.activity_landing);
mThrustButton = (Button)findViewById(R.id.thrustButton);
mTypeLabel = (TextView)findViewById(R.id.typeTextView);
mPassengersField = (EditText)findViewById(R.id.passengersEditText);
// Add your code here!
mSpaceship = new Spaceship("FIREFLY");
mTypeLabel.setText(mSpaceship.getType());
mPassengersField.setText(mSpaceship.getNumPassengers().toString());
}
}
public class Spaceship {
private String mType;
private int mNumPassengers = 0;
public String getType() {
return mType;
}
public void setType(String type) {
mType = type;
}
public int getNumPassengers() {
return mNumPassengers;
}
public void setNumPassengers(int numPassengers) {
mNumPassengers = numPassengers;
}
public Spaceship() {
mType = "SHUTTLE";
}
public Spaceship(String type) {
mType = type;
}
}

mPassengersField.setText(Integer.toString(mSpaceship.getNumPassengers));
All I did here was called the static method "toString" from the Integer class and set the number of passengers as the parameter, this should return the number of passengers as a string.

5,546 PointsIt worked! Thank you so much!
I actually needed to add '()' after getNumPassengers. The actual answer was
mPassengersField.setText(Integer.toString(mSpaceship.getNumPassengers()));
but you totally pointed me in the right direction. Thanks again : D
