Question about display_on_homepage from Wordpress theme

I watched the tutorial series on building a custom WP theme, and I think I followed it pretty well, but my display_on_homepage slug we created in the custom fields for work posts isn't actually doing anything. Can someone point me to the respective video or the line of code I need to make sure it only displays on the homepage slider if it's checked?
