'Sample Page' on the top navigation

Hi, I just downloaded wordpress and installed on MAMP. All works as expected.

I am first of all trying to get my head around how things work.

I noticed there is no menu created by default but there is a 'Sample Page' menu item in the top navigation.

I checked the header.php to see if that link was hard coded there but it wasn't.

Can someone explain to me how is that sample menu item being created? It is not added to any menu with the default installation and I can't find where it is coming from.

Thanks

Hi Mauricio,

If you're not familiar with WordPress I would recommend the Learn WordPress track which will go through all these points for you and help you to continue.

The menu is found in the Appearance section in the left navigation of the WP dashboard but the above track should clear most of this up for you.

Thanks

Hi Rich, Thanks for that. I am actually going through that track at the moment.

I did find the menu under appearance, but right after the fresh installation, there is no menu created.

I was just wondering, if there is no menu created how was the 'Sample Page' Menu item being displayed.

But you are right, I will just carry on watching the track.

Cheers

By default most theme menus display all pages. Sample page is created when you install WordPress so it shows up by default. If you added more pages those would show up too.
