Setting up local hosting with Server Press

I've been trying for several days to set up local hosting on my computer so I can start a practice WordPress site. Finally found Zac Gordon's course on this subject and buried deep in the questions I saw that Treehouse will now start using Server Press, which I have heard of before. Anyone else used this? I'm so frustrated with this process and it seems the most straightforward. Had no idea it would be this hard to set up a practice site!!

ServerPress a company that develops a tool called DesktopServer. This is a tool (very similar to MAMP) that will install a local environment and WordPress for you in a few clicks.

Check out their website for more info.

Thanks, Daron! Yes I have tried with MAMP, went to WordPress' site and went through their instructions, and various other avenues and keep hitting roadblocks. DesktopServer says it will do all of this automatically and I hope it works!

Jennifer Perez it should work :) Be sure to update this forum thread with your results!

Results are in: it worked!! I'm kicking myself because I found this service when I first started this horrid process but was disconcerted by DesktopServer needing admin access, so I didn't keep going with it. But if it is recommended by Treehouse I figured maybe it was okay. I did run into a hiccup during install and got a warning that since this software wasn't verified by Mac, it couldn't be opened. I had to override and open it through the System Preferences, both for the install package and the program itself. Other than that things went smoothly and I'm looking at my practice WordPress site now. Relief!! Hopefully Treehouse makes this service more widely known, it saved a lot of time and headaches. During my research I found a lot of other people having the same problems as I was, and this would have been useful. I'll continue to update if I run into any other weirdness.

Thanks again!

Do you guys know what is the real difference in MAMP 3 PRO to DESKTOPSERVER?
