Should I take 503 min "How To Make a Website" before the "Build a basic PHP website" track?

Firstly, I took "introduction to HTML and CSS" with Mrs. Treasure i know the basics of HTML and CSS. But at the beginning of "Build a basic PHP website" track Mrs. Alena said that "You might wanna detour to How To Make a Website course on the teachers note" she wasn't so clear about it. I looked up the course and it's 503 minutes long, almost the same amount of my PHP history till now. It looked too much for stopping by.

Should I run this course before I start? or can I just start building a basic PHP site track?

Hey!

If you want to be a developer you really have no other choice but to learn HTML. It's like the concrete base on top of which you build your applications. You already know the basics since you've completed the introduction course, but you'll definitely need to learn as much as you can about HTML forms since you'll probably have to do stuff like form validation, etc.

You don't necessarily have to be a CSS master if you're not planning on becoming a Front-End developer, but it's always good to know the basics.

Hope this helps!

Hi There, Vehbi. You could try completing the quizzes and code challenges in the "How To Make a Website" course and if you aren't finding them challenging then you're probably ok to go on ahead.

Something to keep in mind however, is that each time you have the opportunity to learn from someone, whether a new subject or one you know very well, is going to be an opportunity to learn something from a new angle and also to pick up little tips and tricks that you might otherwise miss out on.

Hope this helps

so you guys saying that I can switch directly to the "building basic PHP website" track without taking the whole 503 min web-design course? oh... no one certain I stuck and I don't want my lack of HTML to decrease my learning efficiency on php but on the other hand I don't want to stop by almost one month either...

I suppose it depends upon what your learning objectives are Vehbi. I already had a good grounding of HTML and building websites, but the HTML forms and tables were a good refresher for me. My objectives are build on what I know in HTML and CSS to learn PHP and then go onto the WordPress developer course and then onto JavaScript and JQuery. Based on this, I have not myself seen the need to do the full 'build a website course' as I have worked with WordPress for may years and only intend to build from themes. I also use WooCommerce and want to delve more into PHP and WP Development so I can add more value to my clients.

If my objective was to become a full front-end and back-end developer then my learning paths would be different. In this case I would want to do the full HTML and CSS courses so I know how to build a website from scratch without WordPress and then go into PHP .

My advice is to think about your objectives and then build your course plan from there.

I have almost come to the end of the PHP beginners course. In my view if you have done the introduction to html course and are keen to get started on the PHP beginners course you will find it easier if you learn about html tables and forms. I know there are courses on Treehouse specific to these two subjects.
