Template field not displaying in page attributes

Hi, I'm on the "create a wp theme project" and have installed wp on local server. Problem is in page attributes I cannot see the field display from which to choose a template type. Can anyone help me? Thank you - pete

Have you declared the template name in the top of the relevant php file? Or are you referring to templates like post templates like video, audio etc?
