Thoughts on Gantry framework?

What are your thoughts on using the Gantry framework. I have read couple of posts on the internet on how bad their wordpress framework is. I want to use the Genesis framework but it costs a bit of money for a student like me and found that Gantry is a free framework that I can use. What are your thoughts on Gantry framework?

I don't want to begin learning a framework and at the end I see it's a really bad one.

Some thoughts:

  • Why do you feel you need to learn a framework?
  • What features of Gantry do you see as helpful?
  • Do you plan on charging for your work eventually? If so, you should factor that in to having to pay for Genesis
  • We chose Genesis as the framework to teach because it has the most support and people using it, which goes a long way
  • There are other free WP frameworks that you should also explore

In my opinion people jump into committing to using or learning a framework when it's not even necessary, so I come back to the question again of why you think you need a framework?

I thought it would be like a bootstrap framework or a foundation framework where it's easier to create a website with because it has all the margin and css pre-made. I didn't go for Genesis framework because it costs a bit of money for me right now and I want to start working on wordpress themes, and maybe by using a framework and not coding from scratch would save a lot of time for me.
