Using Child Theme with Quick Install?

It appears as if this course is suggesting to not use the quick 1-step install. Is this correct? It explains how easy a quick install is if your host provides it, and then gives another video on how to manually install it if you need to. Then it just assumes you manually installed it and are working with a software like fileZilla. Do I have to manually install and use fileZilla to FTP in order to create a child theme? Or can I still create a child theme on the server without doing the manual install?

You just need to create new files to your wordpress install when creating child themes. So you need acces to you server to add files. Some hosting providers make it possible to upload and download files on their controlpanel.

Although some hosting providers make this possible its always much easier to use a ftp program like Filezilla.
