what is it saying to do in question 4 on the challenge for Understanding Values and Units

Create a new rule in the .intro element for the <span> element make the font-weight to Bold. and the font style to italic. when I do that the program comes back that the font-size is not wrong. or it says that the intro class is not selected. what am I miss?

It's asking you to make it bold and italic. Not change the font size. Try this:

.intro {
font-weight: bold;
font-style: italic;
}
