You will need skills in HTML, CSS, Javascript, PHP, and MySQL to be proficient as a Wordpress developer. So, I would do them in that order personally, and then move on to Wordpress. However, if you just wanted to learn how to use Wordpress as a piece of software, then You can check out the Wordpress for Website Owners Course

If you really want to become a wordpress "expert", then you'll also want to build your own themes and plugins. To do this you'll need all those skills that Benjamin mentioned. So instead of picking out individual projects from the library why don't you complete the "PHP Developer" track instead. That will take you all of the elements you need in a logical order and each project builds on the next.
Good Luck John

9,767 PointsStart with HTML and work through all the developer and programming courses. If you have the time, you can do it in a month but that's about 10 hours a day on it.
Then start building and wait another 6 - 9 months to get to a level where you'll be able to build most mainstream sites.
