3,840 PointsWhat is the best FREE mysql software one can use?
Trying to make own database to use what I'm learning in Beginning Database and have looked at a few like PhpMyAdmin... but that's not exactly beginner friendly as it just hands you a file with a bunch of loose files to sort through... anything better AND free?
Link, please.

19,870 PointsErin, phpMyAdmin is just a GUI to a MySQL server on your local machine - and it's good stuff.
On way to get up and running is by using an amp stack ( = OS, a = Apache - web server, m=MySql, p=php).
So for the mac there's MAMP, for windows WAMP and there's also XAMPP for cross platform - Linux - has a easy install of LAMP.
You can also just install MySQL and use it's own command line features - but going the *amp stack route gives you a complete test environment (localhost web pages) and using phpMyAdmin is pretty darn handy.
If interested, you can search for the correct one for your OS or just say so, and we can help you get up and running.
