Prospecting is reaching out to potential customers in hopes that you can do business with them. Think of a salesperson at a web development agency reaching out to a small business owner to see if they have any interest in creating a new website.
Lead Generation is typically considered the activities that marketers undertake to create interest in your product or service. The idea behind Lead Generation is that you are trying to get potential customers to reach out to you rather than with prospecting where you are reaching out to the potential customer.
