what is wrong with following code string firstName=Console.ReadLine(); Console.WriteLine(firstName+“ rocks!”);

It looks like you have the wrong kind of quotes.

Your text seems to be enclosed by word-processor style (sometimes called "curly") quotes instead of the standard kind as would be created by a keyboard. You may have cut them from the instructions and pasted them in.

Copying the inner string is a good idea, but always remember to type the quotes yourself.
