Python Python Basics (2015) Number Game App Squared

what is wrong with mycode

the code is attached

squared.py
# EXAMPLES
# squared(5) would return 25
# squared("2") would return 4
# squared("tim") would return "timtimtim"

def squared(num):
    try:
        num = int(num):
            return (num ** 2)
    except ValueError:
        return (num ** len(num))

Hello Todd, your code is good, but Python has a sensive syntax, you just needto remove the " : " I will show you where is, i think it would help you.

Here is your code

 def squared(num):
    try:
        num = int(num): // <- remove " : "
            return (num ** 2) // < - remove "tab"
    except ValueError:
        return (num ** len(num))

The code should be like this:

 def squared(num):
    try:
        num = int(num)
        return num ** 2
    except:
        return len(num) * num

1 Answer

return (num ** len(num))

You've got an extra *. Also, i don't know if this will make the challenge fail, but you don't need the parenthesis on your return statements
